NYC SST Cards

Safety Advisory is a NYC DOB Approved Site Safety Training Provider and are authorized to issue the mandated Temporary, Limited, Worker, and Supervisor SST Cards. Safety Advisory can issue your SST Card regardless of where you completed your training*.

SST Card

In NYC, most construction workers on Local Law 196 job sites that require a site safety plan must have an SST card. It requires 40 hours of DOB-approved training (OSHA30 + 10 SST hours or OSHA10 + 30 SST hours) and must be renewed every 5 years with refresher courses

Supervisor SST Card

Supervisors on Local Law 196 job sites-such as Site Safety Managers, Coordinators, Construction Superintendents, and Competent Persons-must have a Supervisor SST Card. It requires 62 hours of DOB-approved training (OSHA 30 + 32 SST hours and must be renewed every 5 years with refresher courses.

Worker Wallet

On November 1, 2024, the DOB introduced the Worker Wallet card used by construction workers with specialized qualifications. This card consolidates a workers key safety training credentials, including certifications for rigging, scaffolding, and mast climbing, into one convenient format. Please note: The Worker Wallet does not replace the Site Safety Training (SST) card.

What Is an SST Card & Why Is It Required?

Under Local Law 196, the NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) mandates Site Safety Training (SST) for all workers and supervisors on construction sites that require a Site Safety Plan. This is part of a citywide effort to improve safety conditions and reduce on-site injuries.

There are three types of training cards you’ll need to know:

  1. SST Worker Card – For most construction workers (40 hours required)
  2. SST Supervisor Card – For Site Safety Managers, Coordinators, Construction Superintendents, and Competent Persons (62 hours required)
  3. Worker Wallet Card – This card combines key safety certifications/credentials-like rigging, scaffolding, and mast climbing-into one convenient format.

You are required to carry your issued plastic card(s) at all times while on a job site regulated
under Local Law 196

Get Your SST Card

Who It’s For:

  • New construction workers in NYC
  • Anyone entering the field or working on a DOB-regulated job site
  • Construction Supervisors, Site Safety Managers, Coordinators, Construction Superintendents, and Competent Persons

Requirements:

To receive your SST card, you must complete DOB-approved safety training. The required hours depend on your role:

  • Workers must complete a total of 40 hours of training, which includes an OSHA 30-Hour course and 8 hours of additional SST content such as Fall Prevention and Electives.
  • Supervisors must complete a total of 62 hours of training, which includes OSHA 30 plus 32 hours of SST content specific to supervisory responsibilities. This includes Pre-Task Safety Meetings, Toolbox Talks, Site Safety Planning, and more.

Once your training is complete and required documentation is submitted, you’ll receive your SST card. The card features NFC technology for instant verification of your training history and safety credentials.

Renew Your SST Card

Who It’s For:

This is for anyone who currently holds an SST card that is about to expire or has expired. All SST cards must be renewed every 5 years to remain valid.

What You’ll Need:

To renew your SST card, you must complete refresher training based on the type of card you currently hold.

If you’ve completed any eligible courses in the past 12 months, those may count toward your total. The system will automatically apply discounts based on your existing credits.

Steps to Renew:

  1. Select your card type (Worker or Supervisor)
  2. Indicate any completed training in the last 12 months
  3. Review the suggested package
  4. Complete your required courses
  5. Receive your new SST card, valid for another 5 years

The Worker Wallet Card is NOT REPLACING the SST Cards. The Worker Wallet and SST Cards will remain separate cards until further notice. However, both cards will be linked to your profile in Training Connect.

Replacement Card

Safety Advisory is an authorized issuer of SST , Supervisor, and Worker Wallet Cards. While all SST cards are provided free with our courses, we also issue replacements for a $70 fee regardless of where you completed your training or who issued your original card.
